Useful Knits

 Hi Dear Blog Readers,

Once again, I have not knit much this week. Busy and unmotivated.  I better get motivated..little baby girl Ayla was born on Friday... a couple weeks early.  Her She's Like a Rainbow  sweater is for next fall anyway.  One more inche before I start ribbing.

I love it when people actually use the knits I make..including me  LOL

My son-in-law Mark loves his Christmas socks.  He told Tiffany they are soft and warm.  Win!  Makes knitting those size 13 socks worth it!  About time to start on his 2022 socks.  ugh

Ruth finished up her beautiful Catboat Cardigan.  I love it..don't you?  She cant wait to wear it.  Next step is buttons.

She started a hat in the beautiful yarn Emma brought her from Sweden.  Yarn is Ulgarn Extra 2 and pattern is Mi Amaro by Thea Colman.

Martha is working on a sock. She started with a pattern but felt it did not show, and was slowing her down so she stopped. I LOVE the colors...

In other news:

We all went to Joey/Casey/Benny's today for breakfast and fun with Joe's  snowdog that he got for ice fishing.

Notice the useful knits made by me in this picture.  My hat, mittens, and cowl.   Mason's hat, mittens, and scarf I made Tiffany years ago that is inside his coat.  The sun was brilliant today!

I love this picture:

This is the snow dog thing that was pulling the sled:

It's just a machine that pulls things so you need a sled.

I love this pic of Joey, so I did a close up :)

This is a picture of Lake Ontario taken from their living room window. Look at everything going on in this picture.  The clear sky. The snow clouds over Canada. The ice out far. The ice up close. See the dark spots about halfway up the picture?  Ducks!

Casey just sent this picture..see the swans!

Brrrr Cold

 Hi Dear Blog Readers....

Winter is here with a vengeance here in Western NY. It was -6 degrees when I got up yesterday morning. Big snowstorm Sunday night into Monday.  Great knitting weather....

though, I did not  knit much. Have just separated the sleeves on the yoke baby sweater I am making.

Pattern is:  She's Like a Rainbow  This is made with fingering weight yarn, but I am using Cascade 220 Superwash worsted...using numbers for smallest size. I'm hoping it turns out about a 12 month size so the new little girl can wear it next fall/winter.  I had to look at free baby yoke worsted patterns on Ravelry to tweak some of the measurements.  I think this will open up nicely once blocked. What would we do without Ravelry?

Ruth is working away on her sweater.  The first sleeve is probably done by the time I write this.

It is such a lovely sweater, dont' you think?

Remember a couple weeks ago when I told you Martha made a bunch of felted mittens for her pre-school class....Here is one little cutie wearing them:

In other news:

This is a picture of our driveway Monday morning.  We are getting more snow today.

I put these pics on  facebook, but want them here too.

Mason came yesterday and I pulled him around on his sled. I was running most of the time, and he was laughing so hard! We had fun.  He was not happy to come in, but Grammy was tired!

Note:  He is wearing the hat and mittens I made him.  He was playing in the snow. When he came in the mittens were wet on the outside, but dry on the inside. Wool is a wonderful thing!

I made pizza last night with sausage and onion. Joe said it was blogworthy...it was pretty good.  His half has tons of onions...

Hunker Down!!

 Hi Dear Blog Readers!

Here we are entering the 3rd week of  2022!  Yikes!  I started a different job at work, and it leaves little time for  knitting....I mean I never  knit during work...but I'm pretty darn tired at night.  Besides doing a 30 day yoga challenge, and getting steps in......knitting has been taking the back burner.

After a few "major" tweaks, I finished up Tiffany's Holey Hat.  Loosely based on the pattern.

The trick was getting the top hole large enough for the bun, but not too big.

The hat has one large cable on the top, like Mason's and Joe's.

She requested a hat to match Mason's but with a bun so I think it is a success!

The Modern Daily Knitting Striped Marled Hat. is done.

I will mail it Tuesday.  Woolfolk Tynd Yarn. Size 3 needles for ribbing, Size 4 for main hat.

I made this hat  to try the technique, which is so simple, really, and I've done it before.  The yarn is really nice. So soft for the intended bald head.  My friend's husband who lost his hair from chemo.

No one around to take pictures so forgive the next two "selfies".

Joe said it was a nice hat for a man, so a big win!  Would I make it again?  Maybe.

Ruth is working on her sock,   Dancing Leaf Dyeworks. Colorway Rhinebeck

She started working on catboat cardigan by Amy Christophers again.. Yarn is Green Mountain Spinnery Alpaca Elegance. Alpaca and wool. 2ply DK. Dragonwell colorway. She did a three needle bind off on the shoulders and am knitting the color. She is mulling over knitting sleeves separately per the pattern or picking up stitches and knitting them in place.

Martha started a new sweater. Pattern is Naima.

In her own words:

naima has a short and Tunic size. I’m debating to do in between size to put the pockets on, which I like.  We’ll see how it goes.  I’m using Gray Jill Draper Ansel which is not too processed merino and kind of rough texture.

Here’s. Picture of the collar. I just finished it. Some of the sweaters on Ravelry have very stretched out collars.  I’m hoping it’s from the soft texture of the yarn, and mine will stand up more, which is a look I like.  I’m ready to get onto the next step in this project which is doing sleeves etc.    here’s a close up of the eyelets if you want to use it. I like the look of a cable made by a decrease for the yo.

Here’s the picture of new sock yarn I’m making.  I need brown socks so I was happy to see a skein in my stash.

Here’s new pattern book I bought for a lot of money.  Outlanders is supposed to be a good TV show according to Emma, I Dk but this book is the knit wear for the show.

My favorite pattern is the sweater I’m doing to show you which I will make out of the camel yarn Emma gave me.  I’m going to knit it with a mohair to soften it and soften the guard hairs if possible.  It’ll be an experiment.

In other news:

We went to visit Mason, Tiffany and Mark on Wednesday.  He's so cute!

Went to visit Joey/Casey last night. This is Lake Ontario - view from their window.

The ice is starting to form.

Mark went fishing at Thousand Islands yesterday and caught a mess of fish

The nearly-weds went with us to see mom and dad today. We had a great visit.

Mom and dad were so happy.

Joe, Mason & Tiffany went too.

We are expecting a Nor/Easter storm tonight in to tomorrow night. I am making sauce and meatballs. I'll make bread during lunch tomorrow. I love comfort food during a storm.

Have a safe week dear blog readers....I hope you get a lot of time to knit.

Uneventful

 Hi Dear Blog Readers!

This has been an uneventful knitting week here at Knitatation.  I started a new job at same company on Monday, and it is a lot to learn.  Luckily, I have a couple of brainless projects going.

Finished up the first sock.  I have to say, I love these colors!

Peace Love & yarn / Kestrel base / Colorway Graffiti / 100 SW Merino Wool

Normally I don't knit socks with 100% merino, but they are for me and I always wear slippers with homemade socks. Will also reinforce heel when I'm done.  I did a German Short row heel.  Have just a row done on sock #2.

This is the Modern Daily Knitting Striped Marled Hat.

This is for a friend's husband who just lost his  hair from chemo. It looks big, but really isn't. Size 4 needles.

I tried it on Joe today and I "think" I will have enough yarn.  I like it much better with the brim rolled.

The yarn is Woolfolk Tynd, that pattern calls for. I was lucky to get it on sale from Yarn Culture

I will be honest, if I didn't get it on sale, I probably would not buy it. Pricey and not a lot of yardage. It is wonderful yarn.  So soft.  The yarn is held double throughout the pattern.

I was going to start a baby sweater this weekend, but I need to get this guy his hat to keep his head warm!

Ruth started a sock with yarn that she, Martha and I got from virtual Rhinebeck 2019.  Dancing Leaf Dyeworks. Colorway Rhinefleck. Super wash merino.  She is just starting...

Here is a picture of her in the hat she just finished.  Witch Hare Beret.

I love this hat on her. She did a great job and its so regal.  I keep imagining her in the grocery store and people stopping her to say what a great hat she is wearing.

Martha is just about done with her socks. Miss Babs yarn and oh no they are too big. She is going to give them to her son who is very eclectic and will love them.  She is obviously very disappointed.  I would be too!

In other news:

Tiffany and Mark took Mason to the Strong Museum of Play today.  He had a blast.  The picture in the car is with his cousin (2 months older) Chenzo.  Joe said...of course Mason is driving!  LOL

Tiff said he had a blast.

Have a great week dear blog readers. Stay safe and be kind.

Happy New year!! 2022

 Hi Dear Blog Readers....

Happy New Year !  Time goes so fast these days...that is why it's important to make the most of each day.

Not much knitting here this week. The big event was finishing up Tiffany's 2nd slipper.

Elve Slipper.  Size 3 needle.  Plymouth Select DK Superwash yarn.  This picture is pre-blocking.

I was bored with the 2nd one....LOL.  but may make a pair for me one day. I love them actually. I hope she does.

This is Tiffany's ponytail hat. I ripped it out. Have to make it longer, and leave the opening larger on the top.

I knit quite a bit on my sock.  Ready to decrease for toe. I make myself about one pair a year.

Mason came on Monday wearing his Afternoon Knows sweater.  I'm glad she is putting it on him...and that it is a good fit. Not too big.

He is hard to photograph...always on the move!

He wore it for a couple of hours till he got in the cupboard, opened the lemon extract and spilled it all over him and the floor.  So it had to be washed.  (But my house smelled good!)

Ruth is done with her hat. I think it is sooo regal looking. She did a great job with the colorwork.

Alice Starmore Witch Hare Beret. Her Hebridean yarn. it is a kit.

Martha knit several pairs of felted mittens for her pre-school class and delivered them already so no pictures.  :)

In other news:

Ruth sent these two photo's of birds in the snow. I think this first picture could be a postcard!

A new to them bird is in the feeder, and it is a Kinglet.

Mason came last night and it was nice out so we put him on the little bike Joey rescued out of someones junk.   He knows to hold on and the thing has a steer stick until he is big enough to work the pedals. this picture was taken in the dark.

Joe and I took a day trip to Green Lakes State Park on Thursday.  His chiro told him about it.  It is near Syracuse, NY.  I took a lot of pictures because it was kind of fascinating.  They say on a sunny day it is even more beautiful!

This is a reef. There are signs all over to NOT walk on it or it will eventually be ruined.

The trail around the lake is just under 2 miles.

This is looking towards the beach.
Panoramic view

These pictures are looking thru the tress to the water. It is really that color!

Have a great week dear blog readers...Stay safe and be kind.
